Back in 2015, working from home wasn’t the trend it is today. I was part of the BPO industry, earning ₱12,000 a month, minus the usual deductions — tax, Pag-IBIG, SSS, and PhilHealth. It wasn’t much, especially with a growing child and a husband earning ₱330 a day as an engineer. Life was tough. Bills piled up, groceries got more expensive, and I found myself
constantly asking, ā€œIs this really all there is?ā€

I first dipped my toes into remote work as a cold caller, leveraging my experience as a customer support representative. I landed my first client — an Australian entrepreneur selling Yellow Pages listings to local businesses. The rate back then? Around $15 per hour — pretty high, considering that remote work was still rare in the Philippines. At that time, there weren’t many clients hiring online, nor were there many virtual workers. It was a small world built on trust, skill, and connection.

My big break came thanks to my sister. She introduced me to her client — and that’s when I learned the secret to this industry: word of mouth and genuine relationships. Connections truly open doors that qualifications sometimes can’t.

Then came 2020. The pandemic changed everything. The world stopped — but my work didn’t. My youngest was only three years old then, and while many faced uncertainty, I found myself safe at home, working, earning, and spending precious time with my family. There’s a certain luxury in working from home — sitting with your laptop, sipping coffee, hearing
your kids laugh in the background, and knowing you’re providing for them without missing a single moment of their childhood.

Fast forward to now — ten years later, I look back at that ₱12,000 paycheck and smile. The income, the freedom, the peace of mind I have today? It’s incomparable. I’ve built a life that once felt impossible — one client, one call, and one connection at a time.

If you’re wondering how much I earn now — well, let’s just say it’s way more than I ever imagined.

But I’ll leave that story for my next blog. šŸ˜‰
